FADL-I-OMAR MODEL COLLEGE INTER-CLASS DEBATE COMPETITION: NURTURING FUTURE LEADERS
Owode Yewa, 29th January 2026 – In a remarkable display of eloquence, intellect, and critical thinking, FADL-I-OMAR Model College hosted its Inter-Class Debate Competition for students from Junior Secondary 1 (JSC1) to Senior Secondary 3 (SSC3). The competition was held at the School Auditorium along Owode-Ilaro Road, attracting enthusiastic participants and a keen audience of teachers and students. Following the P.O.I method (Point, Observation, Illustration), students were encouraged to argue logically and defend their positions with factual evidence. The debate topics were carefully selected to stimulate thought and discussion on both social and educational issues:Day School vs Boarding School: Which provides a better environment for learning?Teachers vs Doctors: Who is more important to the development of a nation?Should the use of ChatGPT and AI be banned in writing school assignments?Should vocational training be mandatory for all senior secondary students?Students impressed judges and the audience alike with their confident delivery, clarity of argument, and ability to respond to counterpoints. The competition not only tested their knowledge but also honed public speaking, critical reasoning, and teamwork skills. The school’s academic coordinator highlighted that events like this aim to cultivate leadership qualities, effective communication, and analytical thinking among students. She noted that debating allows students to engage with contemporary issues, form informed opinions, and express themselves confidently. The Principal of FADL-I-OMAR Model College [Mr.Oniyiku S.A] commended all participants for their outstanding performance and reiterated the school’s commitment to providing platforms that foster holistic development, ensuring students are well-prepared for future academic and professional challenges. The debate competition concluded successfully, leaving students inspired and motivated to participate in future intellectual engagements. It is clear that such programs play a pivotal role in shaping the minds of the next generation of leaders. Signed by:Mr. Kushimo A.RCoordinator, Literary and Debates Committee

Dear contestants, As you step onto this debate platform today, remember that this is not just a competition of words, but a test of knowledge, confidence, and character. Speak with clarity, not haste; let your arguments be guided by facts, logic, and respect. Listen carefully to one another, because a good debater is not only known by how well they speak, but by how well they listen and respond thoughtfully. Do not be intimidated by opposing views, stand firm, remain calm, and defend your points with confidence and courtesy. Win or lose, let today be a learning experience. Carry yourselves with dignity, discipline, and sportsmanship. At the end of this programme, may you leave this stage better thinkers, better speakers, and better leaders of tomorrow.
